Many things have changed in world politics since the last Airshow in Dubai 2019. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain now have full diplomatic relations with Israel. Therefore, Israeli aviation and defense companies are allowed to attend this event this year for the first time in history.
This marked a turnaround from the period when Arab states considered it unacceptable to recognize Israel’s contributions to this industry. Now the Israeli industry can attract new clients and allies in the Gulf region. Saudi Arabia’s unexpected approval for the Abraham Accords gives way to a broader connection in trading and diplomatic relations between Arab states and Israel, with Sudan and Morocco already in the line.
This year’s show will host ten Israeli companies, including the country’s most prominent players in the industry. Among them are Rafael (Stand 310, 415), Israel Aerospace Industries (Stand 300), and Elbit Systems (Stand 510). Each of them showcases services and products from multiple divisions in Dubai.
Overview
On the military side, guests will learn more about the VTOL, the Israeli Multi-Mission Aircraft System developed by the group’s BlueBird Aero Systems subsidiary. There will also be various satellites, electrical optics payloads, and missiles. The group will also present its cybersecurity expertise and its MRO capability (maintenance, repair, and overhaul).
IAI’s passenger-to-freighter exchange business grew due to an unprecedented decline in air transport demand provoked by the Covid pandemic. The company proposes several options based on Boeing’s 777 and 737 aircraft.
In August, the company announced an agreement with the engineering division of Etihad to establish an MRO facility in Abu Dhabi. The deal orders for conversions of the 777-300ER. They should be certified by the FAA, the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, and EASA.
In a statement about its attendance in Dubai, IAI said that the company is excited to build and expand cooperation with UAE partners. Besides, it also showcases its control, command, computers, communications, and intelligence systems.
