Facebook’s Vanish Mode lets you send dissapearing messages

Facebook and new opportunities

The social media giant continues to expand its services and by incorporating new features. Interestingly, Facebook’s latest take on a signature Snapchat feature is now available to users, and its name is Vanish Mode.

It is worth noting that, Vanish Mode is an ephemeral messaging mode for both Facebook Messenger, as well as Instagram, which allows users to send texts, photos, emoji, and stickers, voice messages. Interestingly, they disappear immediately once the receiver opens the message after closing the chat window.

Interestingly, some users may have already noticed Vanish Mode in the chat settings on Messenger. It makes sense, as Facebook started to offer this feature to some users. Moreover, in the case of Instagram, some elements of Vanish Mode are already incorporated into the direct messaging feature set. It already includes disappearing photos as well as videos.

People should keep in mind that, Vanish Mode is similar in ways to Messenger’s existing secret conversation mode. As a reminder, this mode lets users enter an end-to-end encrypted chat that’s saved only on the device. However, the new model is different, as it deletes all communications forever after the person views the message.

Facebook and teenagers

It is worth noting that ephemeral messaging for Facebook still represents a way to attract younger smartphone users. Interestingly, Snapchat popularized ephemeral messaging among U.S. teens with stories and its DM design. However, Facebook adapted many of its rival’s features and implemented them throughout Messanger, Instagram, and WhatsApp for users of all age groups.

As a reminder, CEO Mark Zuckerberg made an important announcement in 2019. According to this announcement, the company would focus on private messaging and groups.

Vanish Mode will help to achieve this goal. It is worth noting that Vanish Mode will appear in both apps as a distinct option. A user can turn on and off in the settings of any particular chat message.

Moreover, users can also enter the mode by swiping up on a chat window. People should keep in mind that Vanish Mode is only available for one-on-one chats at the moment and not group threads.

At the moment, Vanish Mode is available on Messenger in the U.S. and some other countries. Hopefully, it will go live on Instagram in the U.S. as well as other countries in the future. Facebook made the right decision when the company decided to unveil Vanish Mode.
