Qualcomm Announced its Flagship Smartphone Processor

The Qualcomm exhibit show foretells the future of cellular phones with the push into 5G technology.

Companies are working hard to create new products, attract new customers, and retain users who bought their products in the past. Recently, Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 888 at its Snapdragon Tech Summit. The Snapdragon 888 will power the next wave of 2021 Android flagship companies like Samsung, OnePlus, LG, Sony, and etc.

People should take into account that, Qualcomm’s next-generation smartphone processor is making a big improvement for 5G. Importantly, it will finally offer a fully integrated 5G modem, unlike last year’s Snapdragon 855. Snapdragon 855 required that manufacturers include a separate modem chip inside the cramped interior of a modern smartphone.

It is worth noting that the Snapdragon 888 will feature Qualcomm’s X60 modem, announced in 2019, which jumps to a 5nm process for better power efficiency as well as improvements for 5G carrier aggregation across the mmWave and sub-6GHz bands on the spectrum. Interestingly, between the new 5nm architecture and the power efficiency gains from an integrated modem, the new chips look to offer some substantial improvements when it comes to 5G.

Qualcomm and new capabilities

This is not the end of the story, as, in addition to the 5G improvements, Qualcomm also teased several other advances coming to the Snapdragon 888. For example, the company’s sixth-gen AI Engine. Interestingly, the sixth-gen AI Engine runs on a redesigned Qualcomm Hexagon processor. It promises significant improvement in performance and power efficiency for AI tasks.

Moreover, the flagship smartphone processor will also feature the most significant upgrade in Qualcomm Adreno GPU performance. However, the exact details remain unknown.

Moreover, the company previewed new photography features that the Snapdragon 888 will enable. Let’s have a look at the features. For example, the ability to shoot roughly 120 photos per second at the 12-megapixel resolution, thanks to the updated ISP.

The company’s announcement made on Tuesday is just a first look at the Snapdragon 888. On December 2, the company will provide more information regarding the specs and improvements. Qualcomm retains its dominant position when it comes to providing chips for almost every major smartphone in the U.S.

Importantly, the debut of the Snapdragon 888 is not just a first look at Qualcomm’s last advances. Moreover, it’s a preview of what to expect from phones like the Samsung S21 lineup as well as expensive Android phones.
