Recently, Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 888 at its Snapdragon Tech Summit. It is worth noting that the Snapdragon 888 will feature Qualcomm’s X60 modem, announced in 2019, which jumps to a 5nm process for better power efficiency as well as improvements for 5G carrier aggregation across the mmWave and sub-6GHz bands on the spectrum. Interestingly, between the new 5nm architecture and the power efficiency gains from an integrated modem, the new chips look to offer some substantial improvements when it comes to 5G.

This is not the end of the story, as, in addition to the 5G improvements, Qualcomm also teased several other advances coming to the Snapdragon 888. For example, the company’s sixth-gen AI Engine. Interestingly, the sixth-gen AI Engine runs on a redesigned Qualcomm Hexagon processor. It promises significant improvement in performance and power efficiency for AI tasks.
Moreover, the flagship smartphone processor will also feature the most significant upgrade in Qualcomm Adreno GPU performance. However, the exact details remain unknown.
