Rosatom signed several agreements with the government of Serbia. One of which allows them to create a Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST). The corporation also signed a deal to form a collaborative venture to execute the project in Serbia.
According to these agreements, both sides will build a Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology with radiopharmaceuticals production buildings and a cyclotron complex in Serbia. This project is due to finish within the next three years.
Overview
Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom director-general, stated that they are pleased to announce that together with their Serbian partners, they managed to identify the specific steps. They also identified a timeline for executing the project using Russian nuclear technology innovations. He also said that the nuclear medicine center and other facilities would provide Serbians with high-tech medical solutions. They could improve on their abilities to treat cancer and other diseases.
He added that they would mark this as a historic day in the connections between Russia and Serbia. Nenad Popovic, Serbian Minister of Innovation and Technology Development, said that after the agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, they had signed significant agreements. These agreements could bring Serbia on the map among other European countries. Thus, making this region an advanced base for scientific research in nuclear technology. He added that it would help Serbia handle the challenges in research, science, and, most importantly, in healthcare.
This center will use cutting-edge technologies to contribute to the country’s development. These technologies include radioisotope production for industrial and medical purposes and material composition tests of minerals and environmental samples. President of Rusatom Overseas, Evgeny Pakermanov, said that as part of their joint venture with Serbian partners, they would build a modern radiopharmaceuticals production facility to diagnose and treat various diseases. He added that it could significantly contribute to advanced nuclear medicine in the region.
