Russia entitled to The Most Sanctioned Country On The Planet

According to a New York-based sanctions watchdog site, Russia has become the most sanctioned country in the world as a result of its war in Ukraine. The US and its allies slapped sanctions on Russia for the first time on February 22, a day after President Vladimir Putin declared the two Ukrainian rebel territories of Donetsk and Luhansk to be “independent nations,” according to AI.

Following Russia’s declaration of military activities against it on February 24, hundreds of more sanctions were imposed. Russia now has more sanctions than Iran, with 3,616 in total, knocking Iran out of top place.

More Countries are Joining the Sanctions

According to the site, Switzerland has 568 sanctions on Russia, the European Union has 518, Canada has 454, Australia has 413, the United States has 243, the United Kingdom has 35, and Japan has 35.

Countries all across the globe have put sanctions on Russia in an attempt to stop the invasion of Ukraine. Iran has been subjected to crippling economic sanctions for the past ten years. The pressure on Russia is increasing by the day. Netflix and American Express are among the American companies that have ceased operations in Russia.

 

According to Putin, these sanctions are “amount to a declaration of war.” As of February 22, the country was subject to 2,754 sanctions, according to the statistics. As President Vladimir Putin’s war rhetoric got harsher and threats seemed genuine after that date, 2,778 punishments were added.
