The Covid-19 and social isolation have caused a surge in the use of dating applications over the past few months. Now, the White House is trying to take advantage of these services to convince American citizens of the importance of getting vaccinated.
The US government has reached an agreement with sites such as Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Match, OkCupid, BLK, Chispa, Plenty of Fish, or Badoo. It aims to offer incentives to users who get vaccinated or intend to do so.
The White House intends to get 70% of the population vaccinated in a month
The White House expects to reach 70% of people vaccinated by July. Considering that 50 million Americans are currently dating app users, this measure is expected to help achieve the goal. Besides, Tinder is one of the most famous dating apps. Because of the coronavirus, people have become uncertain when interacting through the tool for fear of infection.
Each platform will reward users who promote vaccination differently. Tinder, for example, has announced that everyone who adds a sticker to their profiles promoting that they have already been vaccinated will get a free Super Like. A premium functionality allows a user to show a special interest in a specific person. Likewise, the applications will include official information on vaccination centers so that Internet users can find those that are closest to their position.
On the other hand, OkCupid announced that it would allow the accounts of users who have been vaccinated to be more visible within the platform.
According to Andy Slavitt, the White House senior adviser on Covid-19, social distancing and dating were always a bit of a challenging combination. He added that vaccine is a thing which makes us more attractive, and it is finally found.
