CD Projekt reconsiders its plans for Cyberpunk 2077

According to CD Projekt, they have decided to reconsider its plans for Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer. They announced this in a strategy update video published today. This is part of a broader move toward a more agile approach to development. The company is shifting its focus to bringing online elements to all its games, where it’s eligible.

The exact nature of Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer has never really been clear. However, it was expected to be something great, possibly related to GTA Online.

In a November 2020 earnings call, CD Projekt joint CEO Adam Kicinski defined it as a separate dedicated production that developers consider a standalone product.

But it’s obvious that plan has been scrapped. Kiciński announced they have decided to take a different approach to multiplayer, and not just in Cyberpunk. This came after discussing how CD Projekt plans to change its strategy to game development in the future.

Kicinski remarks in the video that instead of focusing on one big online experience or game, they focus on bringing online into all of their franchises one day. He said the studio is building an online technology that can be seamlessly integrated into the development of its future games.

Kicinski announced that GOG Galaxy, CD Projekt’s multi-storefront launcher, will play a fundamental role in the effort to expand a global community of gamers.

Furthermore, he remarked that this new approach should not be taken as a sign that CD Projekt is moving away from the style of games it’s known for.

Radek Grabowski unveiled the next-gen update for The Witcher 3

As we remember, in September 2020, CD Projekt Red announced plans to create a next-gen version of The Witcher 3.

CD Projekt Red lead PR manager Radek Grabowski posted on Twitter and unveiled the next-gen update for The Witcher 3.

CD Projekt Red hasn’t revealed many details about what it will offer. However, in September 2020, it revealed it would leverage the ray-tracing capabilities and faster load times of both consoles. Furthermore, it will include both of the expansions, Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stoneand that it’ll be a free upgrade for users who already own the game on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC.

Additionally, the next-gen version will likely offer some kind of 60 frames per second performance mode. It will also include another mode that supports 4K resolution.

The next-gen version of The Witcher 3 will be available in the second half of 2021.
