First All-Electric Car Charging Station in the UK

Electric cars step-by-step gained popularity across the world. It is not surprising that companies are willing to invest in this business. Interestingly, the UK’s first all-electric car charging station opened on Monday near Braintree in Essex. The company that operates this charging station plans to build more than 100 stations over the next five years. It means Gridserve is willing to spend money on such projects.

Interestingly, the location consists of 36 electric vehicle chargers, delivering up to 350kW of power. Based on the information provided by the Gridserve, that’s enough to provide 200 miles of range in 20 minutes. Importantly, with an initial cost of £0.24 per kWh of energy, Gridserve estimates an average-sized electric vehicle can be charged from 20 to 80% for under £10 less than $13.25.

According to the company that operates this car charging station, at the moment these are the lowest ultra-high power charging rates on the market. People should keep in mind that the station’s chargers are using power from renewable sources. This includes solar panels installed on the station’s canopies as well as the company’s network of hybrid solar farms.

Importantly, there is also a 600MWh battery onsite to help balance the supply of power during peak times. This fact, once more underlines the flexibility of such projects. Based on the information provided by the company, on windy nights, the battery has the capacity to store enough power energy to drive 24,000 miles in electric vehicles the following day.

All-Electric Car Charging Station and plans for the future

It is worth noting that, several weeks ago, the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson made an important announcement. According to Johnson, the country plans to ban the sale of new combustion engine vehicles by 2030. However, it still will be possible to buy some hybrid cars as well as vans until 2035. Interestingly, one forecast cited in a recent government report estimated that there could be more than 10 million electric cars on British roads by 2030.

How New Android Features Will Change the World

As a result, every all-electric car charging station will play an important role, as thanks to such stations, it will be easier to make electric cars more popular in the country. As stated above, Gridserve plans to build more than 100 stations over the next five years. Other countries should pay more attention to electric cars as well as car charging stations like the one that operates near Braintree in Essex. Electric cars have the potential to improve the ecology.
