How Much SpaceX Stakes Does Elon Musk Maintain?

SpaceX stake ownership held by Elon Musk decreased in recent years. Nonetheless, according to regulatory documents, the company’s CEO has retained control of the rocket startup he started two decades ago.

According to a document filed with the Federal Communications Commission last week, a trust associated with Musk owns 42% of SpaceX. This coordinates the Starlink satellite-broadband unit. As of November 2016, according to a document obtained, the trust held a 54% interest in the firm.

According to a recent FCC filing, Musk’s trust held 78% of the voting power at SpaceX. This percentage has remained consistent since November 2016, according to other documents the company filed with the telecom regulator.

Musk’s Financial Decisions Worry Many Investors

Due to his purchase of Twitter Inc., Musk’s financial situation has received more attention. It was a $44 billion agreement. Mr. Musk has claimed that he is cutting expenses at the social-media firm to turn around it, which is bleeding money.

The SpaceX CEO is well known for investing in startups. Before founding SpaceX in 2002 and becoming Tesla Inc.’s leader, he gained capital from selling PayPal Holdings Inc. Since then, SpaceX has expanded its launch capabilities. Among other additions, the firm announced this month has more than 1 million active Starlink users.

Musk said in a tweet recently that he is still involved with SpaceX and Tesla. However, the companies’ teams are so great they don’t usually need his guidance.

There are some companies with shares that trade publicly on the market. And then there is SpaceX, which does not disclose financial data or provide information about company operations in securities filings. There is also less information on who owns it.

Outside investors have purchased stakes in the business as it stepped up its financing efforts in recent years, according to earlier statements from SpaceX, investment disclosures, data trackers, and corporate filings.

According to a list of investors provided by PitchBook, which tracks venture capital and other transactions, SpaceX has about 150 investors. Relative to PitchBook’s data, some investors bought stock from other investors.
