Internet Addiction During a Pandemic

The Internet has become an essential part of modern human life. This invention completely changed the world. Especially during the pandemic, when most people had to stay home, people became even closer to technology. However, is there a limit to healthy consumption and addiction? Where does that limit go, and what is the situation since the global pandemic swept over it?

Cam Adair realized that his attitude towards video games was not healthy since suicidal thoughts were forced. He is already recovering. Adair mentions that he has been struggling with this problem for ten years since school; however, after making a suicide note, he realized that he needed help. Luckily now Cam is completely cured of his game addiction.

The founder of Game Quitters, Mr. Ader, is a 32-year-old Canadian who has created an online support group for people struggling with gambling addiction. Game Quitters has more than 75,000 members worldwide. While technology, and the Internet, in particular, has helped keep the world in touch during a pandemic, it has also led to negative processes.

According to Ader, the pandemic has caused people to rely on even the well-forgotten habits they have overcome. It was a challenge. When you are at home and spend most of your time locked up, you need quite a strong willpower.

According to the US National Library of Medicine, gambling addiction is now part of broader internet addiction. Many people think that Internet addiction, or addiction to games, is not as severe as drug addiction or alcoholism. According to expert Dr. Andrew Doan, the lock exacerbated the problem.

Conclusion

He explains this fact as follows – the pandemic has significantly increased the stress in people’s lives. Using digital media such as games and social media is one of the most common and optimal ways to escape stress.

To combat Internet addiction, tech firms have developed special tools that can be used to restrict or block gambling websites. Linewize is just such a product, designed specifically for parents.

The app allows parents to remotely control their children’s spending time on gaming sites and the Internet. Linewize prevents violence and access to materials that could hurt children.

According to psychologists, even for adults, Internet addiction can lead to problems such as gambling addiction. BetBlocker is an app that allows people to block access to tens of thousands of gaming websites within a user-defined time frame.

Cam Adair hopes that tech firms can play an essential role in alleviating the problem. Adair urges people suffering from addiction to seek help and consult a doctor and specialist.
