Most of the Southeast Asian stock markets closed this Friday in the red. It happened amid the increase in Covid-19 cases in several countries in the region, such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. At the same time, Burma is under crisis due to the military coup.
Faced with widespread losses, Singapore ended the day with a profit.
In Singapore, the city-state stock market increased by 8.08 points, 0.26 percent. The Straits Times composite indicator stood at 3,117.89 units.
Bursa Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, fell by 13.15 points or 0.83 percent, and the selective KLCI ended at 1,562.17 units.
In Indonesia, the Jakarta stock was down by 24.48 integers, 0.42 percent, and the JCI index ended with 5,773.12 units.
The Bangkok stock market lost 2.10 points in Thailand, down by 0.14 percent, and the SET index settled with 1,552.44 units.
In the Philippines, the Manila Stock Exchange advanced by 1.61 integers, 0.03 percent, and the PSEi composite index ended at 6,199.25 points.
The Vietnam Stock closed with 1,283.93 units after gaining 5.71 integers or 0.45 percent.
The Hang Seng, the main reference index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, closed this Friday practically flat. It gained a slight 0.03% in a day marked by the advances of pharmaceutical companies.
Selective Hong Kong finished at 28,458.44 points, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises advanced by 0.56%.
Three of the four sub-indices of the Hong Kong stock closed in red: Services (-0.62%), Finance (-0.01%), and Real Estate (-0.12%).
In contrast, Commerce and Industries gained 0.13%.
Pharmaceuticals led the day, with advances for CSPC Pharma (2.01%), Sino Biopharm (2.21%), Wuxi Bio (2.31%), and Ali Health (1.39%).
In the financial sector, earnings for insurers Ping An (0.43%) and AIA (0.1%) stood out. Meanwhile, China Life fell by 0.12%.
Among banks, China Construction Bank closed flat. At the same time, the Bank Of China lost 0.32%, and ICBC gained 0.2%.
Energy companies lost ground due to the falls of Petrochina (-0.32%) and Cnooc (-0.71%). Sinopec closed flat.
Among the technological stocks, Meituan increased by 0.73% while the Alibaba group gained 0.97%.
Conversely, Tencent was down by 3.37% today.
In the real estate sector, results were mixed. Longfor Group (-1.81%) and New World Development (-0.61%) ended with losses. Alternatively, CK ASSET (0.82%) and China Resources Land (0.42 %) settled with gains.
The business volume of the session was 151.900 million Hong Kong dollars (19.560 million dollars).
