Tesla Won’t Release Any New Models This Year

The world’s wealthiest person revealed interesting details during Tesla’s fourth-quarter earnings call. Musk stated that Tesla won’t release any new models this year. Moreover, the company isn’t currently developing a $25,000 car.

In his opening remarks, Elon Musk said the continuing chip shortage would make it impossible to release new models without resulting in fewer total vehicles being delivered.

However, without a Cybertruck electric pickup truck to sell in 2022, the company risks ceding ground to Ford. Tesla’s rival plans to deliver its fully electric F-150 Lighting pickup to customers in the first half of this year. It also recently said it plans to triple production of its Mustang Mach-E, a would-be Tesla Model 3 and Y competitor.

Ford is not alone as GM also wants to sell more electric vehicles. The company has already delivered some of its GMC Hummer EVs to customers. GMC Hummer EV is very important for the company. Notably, GMC Hummer EV is the first model to incorporate its Ultium platform, motors, and batteries, which GM developed on its own.

Tesla and its budget-friendly model

As mentioned earlier, Elon Musk stated that the company isn’t currently developing a $25,000 car. Still, he noted that the company plans to develop a $25,000 at some point in the future.

The company’s CEO repeatedly suggested a $25,000 Tesla is possible. Several years ago, he said it would take Tesla about three years to develop, though Musk didn’t provide a timeline for when it might happen. Later, in 2020, he suggested that Tesla would launch such a car within the next three years at Tesla’s shareholder’s meeting.

In spite of saying Tesla has too many tasks to complete in 2022, he still talked about various projects. Musk discussed plans for the company to develop robotaxis and a humanoid robot, nicknamed Optimus.
