Ubisoft’s New NFT Project is Causing Hatred – Here’s Why

Ubisoft’s new NFT project faces strong opposition from the Quartz gaming community. Ubisoft released a beta version of Quartz on December 8 via YouTube Video, with over 214,000 views. The project aims to integrate blockchain technologies and NFTs with existing Triple-A game titles. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint is the first game to combine NFTs officially. The Quartz platform allows players to collect the first energy-efficient Ubisoft NFTs, called numbers.

YouTube recently changed its policy to hide the number of video dislikes on the platform. However, it is worth noting that this number can still be accessed through Google Chrome extensions. Using the extension, the video currently shows 1,400 likes and 37,000 dislikes. This equates to about 96% disapproval.

One of the comments on the video received 2,600 likes, believing that this project does not serve to improve the overall gaming experience. The firm has also received criticism from Twitter users, who have announced that they will uninstall the games and promote a complete boycott of Ubisoft.

A December 8 post on Reddit shows a concerted effort to boycott a new NFT project. ‘Do not support NFT Ubisoft’s unique market” – Has lots of comments. According to Redditor, it is better to oppose this practice. This is another way for pen and nickel players with cosmetics. The main focus here is not on the in-depth production of quality products. Companies need to know that this is anti-consumer. There is nothing wrong with using an NFT style system for digital games. For example, you own your digital copy, not just a license to sell it to another user’s account. This is the future of digital gaming. However, doing all this with the items in the Ubisoft game is entirely unacceptable.

NFTs in Gaming

This is not the first time a large firm has been interested in launching NFTs into the world. It became known last month that Discord had to abandon Ethereum-based NFT integration plans. This is after the gaming community criticized Jason Citron, CEO.

Jason originally shared his firm plans with a beta feature screenshot that included the Ethereum NFT wallet support. However, this was followed by thousands of comments urging the director to abandon the case. Consumers threatened the company with canceling paid Nitro subscriptions. Unlike the case of Ubisoft, where the public is worried about making money, Discord skeptics believe the NFT is damaging the environment because of the energy needed to mine cryptocurrencies.
