Fortnite Might Return to iPhones and iPads

Fortnite is a popular online video game developed by Epic Games several years ago. However, tech giant Apple banned Fortnite after Epic Games secretly added an in-app purchases option, Interestingly, that option offered lower prices but didn’t give Apple its typical 30% cut. The dispute is not over and according to Epic Games, Apple maintains a monopoly over the App Store and its payment systems. It is worth noting that, the Cupertino-based company so far has won a filling that allowed it to continue blocking the popular video game.

Nevertheless, Fortnite might return to iPhones and iPads later this year. Interestingly, players will be able to play this video game through Nvidia’s cloud gaming service, GeForce Now. Importantly, the service has not been announced for iOS yet, but an announcement is expected before the holidays.

It is worth mentioning that, GeForce Now will supposedly run inside of Safari rather than as a standalone app, due to restrictions on game streaming services that make it onerous to support them through the App Store.

People should take into account that, the service allows a customer to stream the personal library of games to laptops and other devices, that might not otherwise be able to run them well or at all. Notably, a standard “Founders” at the moment costs $5 per month. However, a user to play for limited time periods for free.

Fortnite and iOS users

Interestingly, Epic Games the developer of Fortnite, and Nvidia are working together to cope with Apple’s arbitrary restrictions. Importantly, following a public spat with Microsoft regarding the refusal to support its xCloud service. The Cupertino-based company made an important announcement. Developers can choose to reach iPhone and iPad users by using Safari or other browsers in the App Store.

Moreover, Apple also updated its developer guidelines. The specific rules clarify how cloud gaming services could reach iOS players, involving game submission and review. Nevertheless, Microsoft still called the compromise a bad experience for customers. Hopefully, Microsoft plans to bring xCloud to iOS via Safari sometime in 2021.

As a result, a potential GeForce Now browser solution is that Fortnite would be available. However, users will have to set up Nvidia’s streaming service on an iPhone. Interestingly, in that scenario, Fortnite might look better, thanks to higher-quality graphics, because it is streamed from a PC. People should keep in mind that, there is no guarantee it will run as responsively as the native Fortnite mobile app.
