Huawei Suspended from Google’s Business following Trump’s Blacklist

HUAWEI – On Sunday, news reports broadcasted the suspension of Google’s business with Huawei, such as transferring hardware, software and technical services, as the Chinese technology company was attacked by the U.S. government and warned to be blacklisted around the world.

On the flip side, services that involve open-source licensing are unrestrained.

A Google spokesperson said earlier that current holders of Huawei smartphones with the Google apps are still capable of downloading and using the app updates as long as it is Google provided.

The Google spokesperson said, “We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications.”

Without giving further details, the spokesperson added, “For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices.”

Losing access to Google’s updates in the Android operating system will surely cause slow progress together with the suspension of Huawei’s smartphone business outside China.

Incoming updated versions of the tech giant and the use of the well-known services in particular are the Google Play Store, Gmail, and YouTube apps, which will be restricted to the public.

One source stated, “Huawei will only be able to use the public version of Android and will not be able to get access to proprietary apps and services from Google.”

Huawei for Trump Administration’s Blacklist

On Thursday, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd was added to the trade blacklist by the Trump administration. Now, it is intensely difficult to have business with the US counterparts due to its immediately enacted restrictions.

A global supply chain is still assessing the impact to which the extent of Huawei will be damaged by the U.S. government blacklisting of the company. In the meantime, Huawei’s ability was questioned by chip experts in continuing its operation without the help of the United States.

According to a source, discussions are done by Google internally to see the specific details of services troubled by suspension. On Friday, the impact of the blacklist is being studied by Huawei attorneys.

On late Sunday, until further notice, Intel Corp, Qualcomm Inc, Xilinx Inc, and Broadcom Inc chipmakers have ordered their employees not to provide critical software and components to Huawei.
