Microsoft Unveils its Largest India Data Center Region

On Monday, Microsoft Corporation announced establishing its largest India data center region in Hyderabad, Telangana.

This move intended to bet on rising digital consumption in one of the fastest-growing markets.

Microsoft India head Anant Maheshwari explained that the company makes long-term investments in the country. However, he declined to share specific investment figures.

Local reports revealed that the tech giant had acquired three land parcels in Telangana to establish its fourth data center.

Remarkably, it would be on the 52-acre land in the village of Chandevelly.

Microsoft explained that the new data center would deliver advanced data security and cloud solutions.

The facility aims to help enterprises, start-ups, developers, education, and government institutions.

Additionally, customers would quickly gain faster access to the entire Microsoft Cloud through the new data centre region.

This would include the firm’s Azure to deliver trusted cloud services locally.

The Hyderabad data center region is another addition to the previous networks in India. It is across Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai that has continuously operated for the past five years.

At the same time, the latest region holds the highest number of employees after its headquarters in Redmond, United States.

Maheshwari mentioned that the business also doubled the capacity in the existing three data centres in the last two years.

Notably, the continued development in the sector across the globe has led to an ever-growing market in India.

In 2021, the overall cloud revenue posted at $124.70 billion, whereas India accounts for $3.80 billion in revenue.

In line with this, experts expected the overall Indian public cloud services market to reach $10.80 billion by 2025.

Moreover, Chennai joined Mumbai as a central data centre market, providing incentives across the country.

The incentives make the areas more attractive for development, flagging support to the data center industry.

Microsoft, Amazon, Google Race in India

Accordingly, Microsoft and its key competitors race in India’s booming data center market. It continues to grow its workforce in the country from the current 18,000.

Microsoft Azure, the company’s business model, obtained $10.00 billion in the last five years.

Meanwhile, e-commerce heavyweight Amazon also unveiled its plans of investing $2.80 billion in November 2020. This move aims to set up its second data centre in Telangana.

At the same time, internet giant Google ramped up its data center infrastructure. It already has a second cluster of facilities in its National Capital Region (NCR).

Then, the firm’s first cluster is in Mumbai, the financial capital of India.

Last year, Adani Group, an Indian multinational conglomerate, announced plans to build six data centre parks across the country.
