The smart collar as an Apple Watch for dogs

Invoxia launches a new smart collar that can monitor a dog’s vital signs. It also comes with a developed GPS and activity tracker for your puppy.

Pet trackers are not new features, but Invoxia intends to shake things up with a new smart collar at CES 2022.

Invoxia’s approach is to monitor vitals such as respiratory and heart rate. The company worked with veterinary cardiologists to develop deep learning AI that uses mini radar sensors. It is similar to the one Google used in its Pixel 4 phones. According to Amélie Caudron, Invoxia CEO, radars can take tasks regardless of how furry the dog is.

Caudron told The Verge that a radar faces the neck and sends a radio signal. It doesn’t matter how furry a dog is; the hair will not reflect that signal. So the radar will know the speed and motion of the skin under the collar. Then the algorithm gets those movements and determines heart and respiratory rate. Caudron says that another plus is that the collar can be loosely and comfortably for the dog. It is a vital difference between the smartwatches and fitness trackers people use. They require a tighter fit to get accurate heart rate readings.

Overview of the product

Besides Invoxia, many pet techs track dogs’ vital signs. There are also the Petpace Smart Collar and heart rate monitoring EKG vests. However, those don’t include GPS tracking and are more for veterinarians than average pet owners.

The main reason why the Invoxia collar stands out is that it combines noninvasive monitor vitals with a traditional GPS tracker. It’s compatible with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,  LTE-M, and GPS. It also features escape alerts.

Invoxia will make the collar available in summer 2022. The collar will cost $99 and a $12.99 monthly subscription for its GPS features.
