The National Rugby League which is Australia’s top-tier rugby league made a step forward thanks to the blockchain-based application.
Importantly, the National Rugby League in collaboration with IP Australia came up with a great idea regarding the fake products. It is no secret that it takes time and effort to deal with such products. Due to this, the rugby league along with this agency will trial a blockchain-based application to curb the sale of counterfeit products.
As a reminder, IP Australia is an agency of the Department of Industry, Innovation, and Science. It is worth mentioning that, IP Australia regulates the issuance of intellectual property rights and legislation regarding the patents, registered designs, and plant breeder’s rights in the country.
Let’s have a look at the new application. It uses blockchain to enable trademark owners to link their products to the government register. Importantly, it acts as proof of their products’ authenticity, their origin, and helps them control the use of their mark.
As part of the trial, the country’s top-tier rugby league will link two of its online merchandise stores NRL Shop and Savvy Supporter with the platform.
Thus, customers will be able to verify that IP Australia checked the websites. This is not the end of the story. Customers will also be able to view information regarding the registered trademark by clicking on the trust badge.
The “trust badge” is an initiative of IP Australia and it is part of the agency’s Smart Trade Mark platform. As a result, thanks to this platform it will be possible to minimize the sale of counterfeit products.
Last but not least, the agency also works with Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation to test the use of their blockchain application.
Rugby is a popular sport in Australia. The rugby league wants to limit the sale of counterfeit products.
