In 2020, millions of people all over the world started to work from home due to the coronavirus pandemic. Moreover, companies are working hard to cope with challenges. Interestingly, Salesforce is joining other famous companies from Silicon Valley in announcing a significant shift in how it allows its employees to work.
Based on the information provided by the cloud computing company, the “9-to-5 workday is dead”. Importantly, the company will allow employees to choose from one of three categories that dictate how often, if ever, they return to the office once it is safe to do so.
Interestingly, the company will also give employees more freedom when it comes to their daily schedules. It is worth noting that, Salesforce joins other tech giants like Facebook and Microsoft. As a reminder, the companies mentioned above announced permanent work-from-home policies in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Importantly, the company is working hard to adapt to the ever-changing environment. The management understands that it is no longer necessary to work from an office. In the modern world, it no longer makes sense to expect employees to work an eight-hour shift. People should take into account that, workers need the flexibility to be successful. Every person has to balance personal and professional obligations throughout the day. Thanks to the company’s decision it will be easier to fulfill all tasks.
Salesforce and a new approach
As can be seen from the information stated above, Salesforce made an important decision. Moreover, thanks to this move the company will be able to hire new employees beyond expensive urban centers like San Francisco and New York.
Interestingly, the company’s chief people officer Brent Hyder mentioned an interesting topic in the blog post. Importantly, he defines the three different categories of work as flex, fully remote, as well as office-based. Let’s have a look at the categories.
People should keep in mind that, flex would mean coming into the office one to three days per week and typically only for “team collaboration, customer meetings, and presentations. Interestingly, Salesforce expects most of its employees to choose this option.
Another option would be to work from home or any other place on a daily basis, except perhaps in very rare situations or for work-related events. The last category would be to work from an office on a regular basis. Salesforce as well as other companies made the right decision. It will be up to the employees to organize their daily schedules.
